Give Your Facial Presence a Boost with Dermal Fillers

By: Our Team

If you’re like some people, you may think that filler injections are reserved for later in life. In reality, dermal fillers can be used at virtually any age to enhance a person’s natural beauty, reduce visible signs of aging, and correct certain facial concerns. At JEM Medspa Indiana, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Dreyfuss and our expert team of aesthetic providers perform a wide range of filler injections to meet the unique personal needs and goals of our patients in Munster, IN. Keep scrolling to learn about the many different ways that filler injections can be used to take your look to the next level.

What do fillers do?

Dermal filler injections are extremely versatile, offering patients the opportunity to address a long list of concerns related to aging, facial symmetry, and more. Some of the most common complaints that can be improved or corrected with injectable dermal fillers include:

  • Facial volume loss
  • Circles under the eyes
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Sunken features
  • Thin lips
  • Setback chin
  • Weak jawline
  • Asymmetric nose
  • Deep facial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds

Do fillers hurt?

Our team is committed to making your filler experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Prior to injection, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the target treatment area(s). After about 15 – 20 minutes, the area should be relatively numb. Using a fine-gauge needle, the filler will then be injected into the desired location. Many fillers contain the local anesthetic lidocaine, which helps to further minimize any discomfort you may feel during treatment. Following your filler injections, it is normal to experience some soreness, bruising, and swelling. A light cold compress can help to relieve these symptoms.

How long do fillers last?

Depending on the type of filler used (JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, etc.) and other individual patient factors, results often last about one year before repeat injections are needed. After several rounds of treatment, many patients report their results begin lasting up to 18 months or longer.

What’s the difference between BOTOX® and fillers?

BOTOX and fillers are not interchangeable. While fillers add volume in order to enhance features and minimize static lines and folds, BOTOX works to smooth out dynamic lines and wrinkles – meaning those caused by facial expressions – by temporarily paralyzing the underlying muscle.

Another difference between fillers vs. BOTOX is their timeline, both in terms of when results appear and how long they last. Fillers provide an almost immediately visible result, while BOTOX requires about one week to take effect. On average, BOTOX injections need to be readministered every 3 – 4 months, while fillers can last up to a year or longer.

Again, BOTOX and fillers are not interchangeable, and optimal results are often achieved using a combination of injectable wrinkle relaxers plus dermal fillers. During your initial consultation for cosmetic injections in Munster, IN, one of our experienced providers will listen to your concerns, answer any questions you may have, and recommend a customized injectable treatment plan that will best help you achieve your ultimate goals.
